A simple, hands-on comfort tool for labor that can support coping, rhythm, and a greater sense of control during early labor and beyond.

See the Elle TENS Unit

We use the Elle TENS, a labor-specific TENS unit designed to be simple to use and easy to bring along as labor unfolds.

What is a TENS unit?

A TENS unit is a small handheld device that uses gentle electrical pulses through pads placed on the back. Many families use it in labor as one of several comfort tools to help manage sensation and stay grounded.

How families use it

The Elle TENS unit is often used in early labor at home, during the drive to your birth location, or during the first part of hospital or birth center labor.

It can be especially helpful for families who want a non-medication comfort option that feels active, portable, and controlled by the laboring person.

When it may be helpful

  • Early labor at home
  • Back labor or low back discomfort
  • The ride to the hospital or birth center
  • Moments when you want another coping tool
  • Families hoping to use non-medication comfort measures
